FUMC Women’s Banquet 2017
Drawing inspiration from Proverbs 31, the Annual Women’s Banquet at First United Methodist Church was held Tuesday, April 27, in the Celebration Center. The room was transformed with white tablecloths and fine china, pink napkins, a wonderful meal catered by The Scarlet Runner and served by a dedicated group of FUMC men sporting pink bowties!
“Pearls of Wisdom” were shared throughout the evening and emphasized by table decorations that highlighted the varied gifts, talents, hobbies and vocations of FUMC women. From the Symphony Guild to smocking, breast cancer awareness to biblical herbs, Meals on Wheels to music, women shared their interests through amazingly creative centerpieces. Devon Key and Judy Williams provided marvelous musical entertainment.
Anne Shannon returned to host the annual event which featured Dr. Anita Adams Powell, District Superintendent for the Central District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church, as the guest speaker. Dr. Powell shared her personal “pearls of wisdom” while stringing a symbolic string of pearls as she spoke. It was a powerful and inspirational message. Pastor Joe Dipaolo and Laura Meisl shared information about the Anchorage Breakfast Ministry. Anchorage was the beneficiary of the evening’s offering; more than $2,400 was raised for the program.
Special thanks go to Tim O’Brien who coordinated the servers, Wayne Betty who supervised the kitchen staff, Steve St. John who handled the sound system and Jim Goude who served as the official photographer for the evening. Thanks also to Nancy Reinhart and Zoa Kile who provided door prizes.
This year’s Women’s Banquet Committee was made up of Cathy Doremus, Pam Emert, Lois Green, Betty Helms, Devon Key, Carol Koons, Beth O’Brien, Jeanne Paules, Kim Schaefer and Katherine Spear. There is always room for more, so if you are interested in working on the committee for the 2018 banquet, please let us know.
